Today the SNP made a manifesto commitment to work with NHS staff unions to submit evidence to the independent pay review body on the impact of pay restraints and to ask for fair assessment on public sector pay rises, which for NHS workers have remained capped at 1% for several years.
Whilst many still get higher-than-1% pay rises through the Agenda for Change pay increments, many of those on the top tier pay for their banding have felt the pinch of rising inflation and capped pay rates.
The Scottish Government has committed to implementing the independent pay review body's recommendations on public sector pay. The independently run body has kept the 1% cap in place in recent years, but as mentioned, with rising inflation it is now felt this cap is unsustainable and has been the subject of much public debate recently.
